Description

Episode guides are a bit misleading with this crime series, because as far as I know Brenner really only exists within a
one year time frame.  It's true that the CBS network gave it a second run in 1964, but that was to show the remaining
episodes that were filmed years earlier.  So unless the episodes I haven't seen have a copyright date later than 1960
there is really only ONE season of shows. 



I've seen more than half of the 26 episodes and 14 of them in this DVD set were all filmed in 1959.   The last one from
1960 is actually an unsold Brenner spinoff pilot called "Charlie Paradise" and has a guest appearance by
Edward Binns, playing his Roy Brenner police Lieutenant for the last time. It has different, jazzier music and the
standard filming style is also different from BRENNER.



What made this New York cop show unique for is time was that it was one of the first to use jump cutting between scenes.
It would be years until other series use that instead of the traditional fade in & out. 



Also Edward Binns was only 11 years older than James Broderick, who played his son (who is also a cop on the force)!! 
Ed was in his 40s at the time and probably used some gray hair dye to look older, and that alone worked.  It was much
easier for the Cartwrights in BONANZA, since naturally gray Lorne Greene was just 13 years older than toupee-wearing
Pernell Roberts.
